Turkey launches Op Euphrates Shield
The
Jarabulus offensive, code named by Turkey Operation Euphrates Shield is a
cross-border battle in and around the Syrian border town of Jarabulus.
This
battle is by Free Syrian Army and allied rebel groups backed by the Turkish
Special Forces as well as other armed units.
The
forces on opposite side are Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) as
well as the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Nadda launches Mera Aspatal Initiative
Union
Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda launched the ‘Mera Aspataal’ (My
Hospital) initiative.
This
move seeks to empower the patients by seeking their views on quality of
experience in a public healthcare facility.
The
ICT-based Patient Satisfaction System (PSS) is envisaged to empower the patient
by seeking his views on quality of experience in a public healthcare facility.
Odisha govt launches Municipal Cadre
Odisha
government has launched a new cadre for urban local bodies called the Odisha
Municipal Cadre.
Chief
minister Naveen Patnaik announced that 3,213 posts will be created in eight
areas under the Odisha Municipal Cadre.
Accordingly,
the government will appoint people in the areas of cleanliness, health,
e-governance and finance under the municipal cadre.
Govt panel clears 16 highway projects
Govt.
cleared for bidding 16 highway projects worth Rs 7,456 crore in 11 states.
These
states are Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Haryana, Gujarat, Assam, Arunachal
Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha.
These
include Rs 248 crore and Rs 200 crore projects for Geometric improvement and
widening of stretches on NH 58.
1st military heritage website launched
India’s
first military heritage website, coloursofglory.org was launched by Glory
Foundation.
A
veteran of the 1971 Indo Pak war, Captain D.P. Ramachandran is
the executive trustee of the foundation.
The
Foundation will conduct various awareness programs across the country,
commencing with major metros, to educate the people about our military history
and heritage.
Mizoram ratifies GST Bill
Mizoram
Assembly ratified the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill by adopting an official
resolution, becoming 13th state to have approved the legislation.
The
ratification of the bill by Mizoram & Telangana means that thus far, 13
states have approved the legislation.
These
states include Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, HP, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, MP, Delhi,
Nagaland, Maharashtra & Haryana.
Haryana passes Sports Council Bill
Haryana has
unanimously passed the Haryana Sports Council Bill, 2016 to constitute
statutory sports councils at state, district, block & municipal levels.
The
Bill was tabled by the state Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Anil Vij.
The
Council will neither select sports persons nor send teams for competitions.
The
Council is meant for promotion of sports, games, yoga & physical fitness.

Jamaica
based Digicel Caribbean Ltd named the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, as its
Chief Speed Officer (CSO).
Usain
Bolt, created history at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio when he achieved the
‘Triple Triple’, 3 gold medals at 3 consecutive Olympic Games.

Sports
Bhutan set to host Asian Tennis Tour
Bhutan
is set to become the 4th Asian country to host a tournament on the Asian Tennis
Tour (ATT) in September which will be country’s 1st ever international tennis
tournament.
India,
Thailand & Iran have already hosted a series of tournaments, both men and
women, on ATT.
Bhutan
is scheduled to host its maiden event from Sept. 16 to 18.
Performance
on ATT is considered for the Asian rankings.
Man Kaur, 100-year-old wins Gold Medal
India’s
100-year-old athlete, Man Kaur, on 30 August 2016 won Gold medal at the
American Masters Games in the 100-meter dash.
Kaur
from Chandigarh was the only female competitor in her age category at the
competition for older athletes.
Kaur
has now won more than 20 medals in Masters Games across the globe.
World
Masters Games is an international multi-sport event that takes place every 4
years.

Mobikwik joins hand with 12 elec. boards
MobiKwik,
a digital payment company, announced its tie ups with 12 state electricity
boards.
The
move comes as a part of MobiKwik’s expansion plan to set up a national base for
utility payments.
The
state electricity boards that have been roped in by MobiKwik are in Bihar,
Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Tripura, Meghalaya, Calcutta, Rajasthan and union
territories of Daman and Diu.
AK Pradhan: Chief General Manager of SBT
Ashok
Kumar Pradhan has taken over as its Chief General Manager of State Bank Of
Travancore.
Pradhan
is from Cuttack in Orissa, started his Banking career in 1985 as a Probationary
Officer in SBBJ.
State
Bank of Travancore (SBT), is a subsidiary of the State Bank Group, but
also has private shareholders.
SBI
is premier bank of Kerala, where it handles the majority of its business.
Canara Bank launches UPI app ’empower’
Canara
Bank has launched customer-centric digital initiative which enables ‘any Bank
customers to link and operate their various Bank accounts using a single app’.
Mobile
app was launched by T N Manoharan, Chairman, & Rakesh Sharma, MD & CEO.
The
app facilitates the bank customers to Pay & Collect Money from anyone
without disclosing their account information.
PFS to give clean energy project loans
PTC
India Financial Services (PFS) has tied up with banks that will provide loans
to companies engaged in renewable energy (RE) production.
These
banks, based on letter of comfort (LOC) issued by PFS, will issue letter of
credit (LC) to companies in the renewable space with diligence on certain
parameters.
Under
this new arrangement, LC can be opened in much shorter time on a case-to-case
basis.
NPCI launches Bharat Bill Payment System
National
Payments Corporation of India has launched the pilot project for Bharat
Bill Payment System (BBPS) with 26 Operating Units.
It
will allow payments for everyday utility services such as electricity, water, gas,
telephone, and DTH in its first phase.
The
BBPS is an RBI-mandated system to provide interoperable bill payment services,
both online and offline.
Sony buys Ten Sports for $385 million
Sony
Pictures Networks India (SPN) announced it has entered into definitive
agreements to acquire TEN Sports Network from Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd
(ZEE) for $385 million.
TEN
Sports channels include TEN 1/2/3, TEN 1 HD, TEN Golf HD, TEN Cricket
& TEN Sports.
TEN
Sports holds broadcast rights to major cricket boards (South Africa, Pakistan,
Sri Lanka, West Indies & Zimbabwe).
2nd unit at KKNPP connected to Grid
The
second 1,000 MW capacity reactor of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project
(KKNPP) was successfully synchronised to the southern power grid.
The
total atomic power generation capacity of Nuclear Power Corp of India Ltd
(NPCIL) crossed 5,000 MW.
The
KKNPP is located in Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu, around 650 km from
Chennai. It is built under India-Russian Nuclear agreement of 1988.
Gujarat distributed 2 Cr LED bulbs
Gujarat
has become the first state to distribute 2 Cr LED bulbs under the Centre’s
UJALA (Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All) scheme.
The
state has reached the milestone in just 96 days & over 42 lakh households
have already benefited from the scheme.
The
UJALA scheme was launched on 1 May’15 replacing the “Bachat Lamp Yojana”.
Govt.
has set ambitious target to distribute 77 Cr LEDs by 2019.
NABARD sanctions 204.67 cr for Haryana
NABARD
has sanctioned a loan of Rs 204.67 crore under Rural Infrastructure Development
Fund (RIDF) for rural infrastructure in Haryana.
147.18
Cr has been sanctioned to the state government under the 22nd tranche of
RIDF for construction of 3 rural bridges, the construction &
upgradation of 26 rural roads.
Rs
57.49 Cr was sanctioned for 10 MW Solar Power Plant at Panipat Thermal Power
Station.
Deaths
Painter Dinanath Pathy passes away
Famous
painter, writer & art historian Dinanath Pathy (74) passed away following a
cardiac arrest at a hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Pathy
was a former secretary of Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi and Bhubaneswar &
is regarded as the pioneer of the art movement in Odisha.
The
distinguished painter dedicated his life to the promotion of Odia art across
the globe through his art work, poetry and teaching.
