Thai and Malaysian leaders have today announced that
they are considering building a border wall to combat transnational crime and
smuggling.
The two countries already
signed a security cooperation deal to step up intelligence sharing against
cross-border terrorism.
This comes after bombings in
Thai tourist towns in August allegedly by Muslim separatists, according to
police.
National Affairs
The two-day International Buddhist Conclave is going
to be held during 3rd and 4th October 2016 at Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh.
Aim : To
promote Buddhist sites in Bodhgaya and Sarnath.
This conclave is being
organised by the Tourism Ministry of India.
Buddhists and foreign
delegates from over 40 nations are expected to attend the meet.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi
and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will be attending the
inauguration.
HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar today announced that
the government is working to give Digital Degrees and board certificates to
students starting from the 2017 academic session.
This digital database will
benefit recruiters and help in tracking fake academic certificates.
The government is planning to build a Memorial for
Sant Kabir in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, either in Prime Minister Narendra
Modi’s constituency Varanasi or in Maghar, where the Sant's body rests.
Karnataka has moved the Supreme Court for an urgent
hearing to restrict the amount of water to be released from river Cauvery to
Tamil Nadu to 1,000 cusecs.
The court had directed
Karnataka to release 15,000 cusecs of water for 10 days as an immediate relief
to Tamil Nadu.
Note :
Karnataka also sought to decrease the number of days to 6.

Filipino drama film 'The Woman Who Left', directed by
Lav Diaz has won the top 'Golden Lion' award for the best film at the 73rd
Venice International Film Festival which ended today.
Oscar Martínez won the 'Best
Actor' award for the film 'The Distinguished Citizen', while Emma Stone was
named the 'Best Actress' for the film 'La La Land'.
BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has been given the
"Tamil Ratna" award by a body of Tamil diaspora in the US for
fighting corruption and working for transparency in governance.
The award was conferred to
Swamy by the America Tamil Sangam.
Science & Technology
Spanish-made Talgo train, which became the fastest
train in India after clocking a speed of 180 kmph in July, successfully
completed its last Delhi-Mumbai Rajdhani route trial today.
The train covered the route in
11 hours and 48 minutes.
Note : This
is a four-hour relief from the Rajdhani which takes around 16 hours to complete
the 1,388 km distance.
Iran today began building a Nuclear Plant with Russian
help, in a $10 billion project, after agreeing to limit its nuclear stockpile
last year.
Iran already operates a
Russian-built nuclear reactor at Bushehr, its first.
Note :
Russia had signed a deal with Iran in 2014 to build up to eight more reactors
in the country.

death anniversary of its Founder Mao Zedong, who passed away on 9th September
1976.
Mao, the first Chairman of the
Communist party of China, led the country from its establishment in 1949, until
his death in 1976.

The Indo-US Economic Summit is going to be held during
13th & 14th September 2016.
Business, government, and
academia leaders will deliberate on ways to enhance bilateral trade and
investments between India and the US during this summit.
This summit also will seek to
augment the existing trade level to $500 billion and will focus on sectors that
facilitate growth.

Kerber beat Czech Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to win her maiden US Open
title and her second overall Grand Slam title.
The 28-year-old, who is the
first German to win the US Open since Steffi Graf in 1996, is the oldest player
to make her debut atop the women's tennis rankings.
Great Britain’s Jamie Murray and Brazil's Bruno Soares
won their second Grand Slam doubles title, defeating Spaniards Pablo Carreño
Busta and Guillermo García-López today.
This was Murray’s third
doubles slam title of his career, and second with Bruno Soares, with the pair
winning the Australian Open earlier this year.
Indian Test captain Virat Kohli remained the
top-ranked T20I batsman, according to ICC's latest T20I rankings.
