Pull-Out
Prime Minister Theresa May wants
to trigger Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union without a vote in
parliament.
May’s government already faces a
legal challenge to prevent it beginning the process of leaving the EU without
an act of parliament.
Most members of parliament’s
lower House of Commons, including May, campaigned for Britain to remain in the
EU.

Poverty agenda
A committee for poverty
alleviation has been constituted.
The committee comprises the CM of
MP Mr. Shivraj Singh Chauhan, CM of Jharkhand Raghubar Das, CM of Maharashtra
Devendra Fadnavis & BJP Vice President Vinay Sahasrabuddhe.
Modi said at least BJP ruled
states should apply the Centre’s schemes for poverty alleviation & other
related schemes in an ideal way.
Gaston regains hurricane
strength
According to “US National
Hurricane Center” reports tropical Storm Gaston, churning in the Atlantic
southeast of Bermuda, strengthened and regained hurricane status.
Gaston on thursday became the
third named hurricane of the Atlantic season.
The center of Gaston was located
655 miles east-southeast of Bermuda and was moving towards the northwest at a
speed of eight miles per hour.
Thiruvananthapuram-Mangaluru
Exp derails
13 coaches of
Thiruvananthapuram-Mangaluru Express derailed.
No one was injured in the
incident, railway officials said.
Train services in the State had
been hit as railways have cancelled and regulated many trains.
The cause of the accident is
yet to be known.
Kashmir Problem: Unity
& love are mantra
PM Modi said “Ekta” (unity) and
“Mamata” (love) are the basic mantras for addressing the Kashmir problem.
He emphasised that if any life is
lost in Kashmir “that loss is ours, of our own country”.
He also slammed “those people who
push small children to try to create unrest in Kashmir”, saying “some day, they
will have to give answers to these innocent children”.
Karnataka says NO to
Tamil Nadu: Cauvery
Karnataka on Saturday said it was
not possible for it to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
Karnataka government said “We are
facing a severe distress year”.
In the Supreme Court, TN has
sought directions to Karnataka to release 50.052 TMC ft of Cauvery water to
irrigate farmland.
After TN’s plea for an urgent
hearing, an apex court bench headed by CJ TS Thakur has posted the matter for
Sept 2.
FSSAI’s new standards for
frozen product
Food regulator FSSAI has proposed
new standards for frozen vegetables and processed fruit products, including
commonly used canned tomatoes, frozen peas and jams.
The standards relate to limits
for metallic contaminants in these products.
Similarly, for schools, it will
prepare a negative list of high fat, sugar and salt foods (junk food), seeking
to ensure food safety and nutrition.
DGCA approves Air India’s
proposal
Saving significant fuel costs and
time, Air India will soon start flying over the Pacific Ocean region for its
lucrative direct services to San Francisco from New Delhi.
Air India would also be the first
Indian carrier to operate on the Pacific region route.
Officials said the route would be
a “win-win situation” for the carrier as well as passengers.
Modi govt’s package for
PoK refugees
The government is all set to
announce a Rs 2,000 crore package for displaced people of Pakistan occupied
Kashmir living in the country.
The J&K government has
already identified 36,348 families for distribution of the package under which
each family will get around Rs 5.5 lakh.
The refugees from West Pakistan,
mostly from PoK, got settled in different areas of Jammu, Kathua and Rajouri
districts.
PM Modi to address the

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is
all set to address the nation through the 23rd installment of his monthly
special–Mann Ki Baat.
In the last Mann Ki Baat address,
the Prime Minister had extended his best wishes to the Indian contingent of the
Rio Olympics.
The big question remains,
however, is whether Prime Minister Modi will speak on the Kashmir issue.

New legislation would lock
foreigners out of the country’s fertility clinics & limit surrogacy to
Indian couples who have been married for more than five years and are unable to
have children.

told reporters that the proposed law would stop foreigners and gay couples
hiring Indian surrogates.

Mehbooba’s plan for peace
in Kashmir
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister
Mehbooba Mufti today presented a “three-pronged action plan” for bringing peace
in the valley.
She said every political party

The CM also targeted Pakistan and
said it should stop supporting the people who are instigating the youth to
carry out attacks on police stations or army camps.

Top-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska
completed a dominating week at the Connecticut Open on Sunday, beating Elina
Svitolina 6-1, 7-6 (3) in the final.
Radwanska had never before made
it past the quarterfinals in New Haven.

Task force to prepare
India for olympics
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has
announced to set up a task force to prepare action Plan for the next three
Olympics Games (2020, 2024 and 2028).
The task force will prepare a
comprehensive action plan for effective participation of Indian sports persons
in the coming Olympic Games.
The 2020 Olympic Games will be
held in Tokyo(Japan).

RBI unions writes against
PDMA
The employee unions of RBI have
appealed to Member of Parliaments and State Finance Ministers to prevent the
proposed Public Debt Management Agency (PDMA).
They said moving the function
will cost the government dearly.
In Fiscal Budget 2016, Union FM
Arun Jaitley proposed to divest the Public Debt Management functions from the
RBI by setting up a separate body under the Finance Ministry.
CBDT to write to 2.59
lakh taxpayers
The I-T Department will soon
write to over 2.59 lakh taxpayers asking them to avail the one-time dispute
resolution scheme to settle their cases.
As per I-T department data, there
were 73,402 appeals with tax effect above Rs 10 lakh.
With this scheme, 2,59,260
appellants will be eligible for the benefit.
Besides, the CBDT will soon come
out with FAQs based on the queries it has received.

Scramjet Engine’s
successful launch
ISRO on Sunday morning
successfully tested its own scramjet or the air-breathing engine.
Two scramjet engines were tested
during the flight.
It was fired from Satish Dhawan
Space Centre in Sriharikota.
The scramjet engine will help in
bringing down the launch cost by reducing the amount of oxidiser to be carried
along with the fuel.
